I am a historian of Science and Technology based at the University of Leeds, currently researching issues of safety and security surrounding the development of High Voltage Electricity in Britain between 1913 and 1960.
I have loved reading from an early age, particularly Science Fiction, Fantasy and Historical literature and have always been fascinated by the ways in which authors have responded to the issues of the day in their writing. While there has been a great deal of interest in exploring social themes such as poverty and equality in literature, little has been done to explore the portrayal of Science, Technology or Philosophy in contemporary literature.
What did authors feel about developments in science during their lifetimes and how was it revealed in their writing. Or Alternatively how have modern writers revealed their understanding of scientific and technological developments when writing about the past?
